As our bodies age and change, what we need from a bra also changes. The styles and cuts we wore with absolute confidence in our 20s just don’t provide the level of comfort or support we actually need in our 50s, 60s, or beyond.
The best bras for older women offer smooth coverage, reliable support, and softer materials that, with any luck, will make you forget you’re even wearing one at all.

What To Know About Bra Shopping Later In Life

Bras can become uncomfortable with age thanks to the normal body changes we all go through. Our breast tissue gets softer, our weight shifts, our posture changes; our hormones fluctuate (thank you, menopause!) and our skin becomes more sensitive than it used to be.
And frankly, ill-fitting bras that are designed for younger bodies (digging straps, poking underwires, general lack of support) do us few favors.
The best bras for older women focus on comfort, support, and ease of wear, often featuring wireless designs, soft and breathable fabrics, wider straps, front closures (magnetic is best for those with mobility issues), and full coverage for natural shaping.
If you’re shopping for a bra as an older women, I highly recommend:
- Getting professionally measured and fitted to find your current size, even if you think you know it, because it can and does change.
- Opting for wide, padded straps and wider bands that distribute weight and reduce digging and pressure.
- Selecting bras with soft, stretchy fabrics that can adapt to daily fluctuations without feeling restrictive.
- Prioritizing support; full-coverage bras with adjustable features help provide lift and support for sagging breasts with a tailored fit.
So you might be wondering, how often should you replace your bras?
A good guideline is every 6-12 months, or whenever your current bras start showing signs of wear (like stretched out fabric or straps that don’t hold in place) and they no longer feel comfortable.
Best Variety Overall: Thirdlove

Although Thirdlove’s bras are designed to fit well and feel comfortable through every stage of life, they’re especially perfect for older women thanks to their wide range of sizes and styles that cater to changing bodies.
There are several Thirdlove bras I would recommend, starting with the ComfortStretch line, which is crafted from an innovative stretch fabric that moves with your body while smoothing everything it touches (and with minimal compression).

The Smoothing Full Coverage Bra provides maximum coverage and support with a soft, skin-friendly touch. The silhouette is really flattering, and the bra is beyond comfortable, even during your longest days.

The ComfortStretch T-Shirt Bra is another great option because it’s seamless and breathable under clothing, and super comfy, too. But if you have mobility issues that make back-clasping difficult, Thirdlove’s ComfortStretch Front-Close T-Shirt Bra offers the exact same style with easier on-and-off access in a size ranging from 32 to 42 (band) and A through H (cup).

The 24/7 Collection is a classic Thirdlove line that provides a body-loving fit and comfort. My best recommendations for older women include the Minimizer (available with an underwire or without), the Perfect Coverage Bra, and the 24/7 Classic T-Shirt Bra.
Thirdlove Pros:
- Exceptional comfort and softness for older bodies that need gentle support, particularly in the ComfortStretch line, and designs that move with your body while minimizing pinching, digging, and discomfort.
- Large variety of styles to suit any need, from smoothing full-coverage to t-shirt bras and front closure (especially for larger busts).
- Plenty of sizing options that include half-cup sizing and extended bands for a truly personalized fit.
Thirdlove Cons:
- Mid to high price range, especially compared to budget brands like Bali.
- Some specific colors and/or limited editions may sell out quickly (so if you see a color you love right now, I’d recommend snagging it before it’s gone).
Best For Arthritis & Mobility Issues: Liberare

For older women who need bras that provide soft comfort and dressing ease, Liberare offers some of the most adaptive options. Front closure and wireless support are hallmarks of the brand’s designs, making their bras perfect if you’re dealing with limited mobility or arthritis.
My top recommendations from Liberare include the Smooth-On T-Shirt Bra, the Everyday Easy-On Bra, and the Wrap Bralette.

The t-shirt bra features front closure (with optional finger loop assistance) that’s secure for all-day wear and easy to clasp. This is a wireless bra that’s lightly lined and offers full coverage, with high side wings that smooth everything beneath your arms and around your back.

The Everyday Easy-On Bra is designed for lift and comfort, with wireless support and trademarked HeroHold magnetic front closure to make dressing a breeze, and it’s available in cup sizes up to an F. When shoulder mobility is an issue, the Wrap Bralette features an easy front closure design that fastens with super soft velcro, plus there’s pretty lace detailing at the back for a touch of femininity.
Liberare Pros:
- All of their bra designs and styles prioritize comfort without back closures; these are meant to be easy to take on and off, so every Liberare bra has a front closure that’s either magnetic or soft velcro.
- Offers adaptive sizing to accommodate changing body shapes and needs.
- This is the only bra brand on this list that’s HSA/FSA eligible if you have either; select “Flex” during checkout to use funds (or get an itemized receipt for reimbursement).
Liberare Cons:
- Limited color options, and the designs are built more with usability in mind, rather than style (so you won’t find a huge range of colors, prints, or lace).
- Support varies by style but each is wireless; these may not provide the same firm lift or sculpting as some others (particularly bras with an underwire).
For Large Busts: Glamorise

One of my favorite brands for larger busts is Glamorise, which focuses exclusively on bras that lift, support, and shape curvier bodies with a touch of glam. Although you can certainly find “nude” bras, you’ll also find plenty of lace, colors, and pretty options here.
For older women, I think the best Glamorise bras are front closure, including the wireless MagicLift Posture Back Bra and the Stretch Lace WonderWire Bra.

The MagicLift Front-Closure Posture Back Bra features a wire-free design that has wide padded straps for shoulder comfort, smoothing back support with lycra panels, and adjustable front closure. This one is perfect if you deal with back pain or posture issues, and also prefer to avoid hook and eye closure around the back.

Pretty yet comfortable, the Front-Closure Stretch Lace WonderWire Bra from Glamorise has a cushioned underwire that’s supportive but comfortable, and the stretch lace is flattering and feminine at the same time.
Glamorise Pros:
- Wide range of band and cup sizes in most bra styles; the MagicLift Posture Back bra is available in 36 to 58 (band) and B through K (cup), as one example.
- Although there are “plain” bras (including nude options), there are a lot of truly feminine designs, colors, and accents to fit your personality.
- Plenty of front-closure options available if that’s what you need.
- Pretty affordable price point, especially when on sale.
Glamorise Cons:
- Not every bra style is available in every band/cup size.
- Although there are bras with front closure, some use hook-and-eye fastening, which may be more difficult compared to Liberare’s magnetic or velcro fastening.
Most Budget-Friendly: Bali

Widely available in department stores, Bali is a well-known bra brand with comfortable yet supportive styles on a budget. My favorites are the Comfort Revolution Front Close Shaping Underwire Bra and the Comfort Revolution Ultimate Wireless Support Bra.

The Front Close Shaping Underwire is crafted from cooling fabric that wicks away moisture, with excellent side and back support for smoothing under clothing. The cups are lined with foam for comfort and the front-closure is a simple clasp (rather than hook-and-eye).

If you prefer a soft-cup bra, the Ultimate Wireless Support Bra looks like an underwire at first glance, but uses moldable foam cups to shape and support comfortably. The straps are cushioned, adjustable, and convertible, and the microstretch fabric is super soft against your skin.
Bali Pros:
- Soft, flexible fit that’s great for everyday support.
- Very wide variety of styles that include underwire and wireless options, plenty of support and smoothing levels, colors, and fabrics.
- Pretty budget-friendly, especially when on sale; some are less than $15 or $20 on sale.
- Super accessible, since Bali is typically carried in a lot of department stores.
Bali Cons:
- Not necessarily ideal for large busts (over 42 DDD).
- Less adaptive compared to Liberare; although Bali carries some front-closure bras, most are the traditional hook-and-eye closure at the back.
- Sizing can vary. Ideally, this is a brand you’d be better off shopping for in person so you can try them on.
Simple Sizing: Warner’s

Another popular department store brand for a reason, Warner’s carries a great selection of really comfortable (but supportive!) bras for older women. A couple of my favorites include the Cloud 9 and No Side Effects bra, both of which are wireless.

The Cloud 9 Super Soft Wireless Lift Bra has cushioned straps for comfort and a light lift that shapes your bustline naturally. This is a great everyday bra because not only is it flattering and effective, but the straps are adjustable from the front, rather than the back.

If you consider your underarms or back to be “problem areas,” the No Side Effects Underarm And Back Smoothing T-Shirt Bra is designed with panels that make sleeveless styling effortless. The straps are wide and comfortable, and they’re also free from hardware; this particular bra fits more like a sports bra, although it does have hook-and-eye closure at the back.
Warner’s Pros:
- Great everyday support (with or without an underwire).
- Many styles offer back and/or side smoothing for a more flattering look beneath clothing.
- Relatively simple sizing and fit; many bras use “Easy Size” (S to 3XL) rather than standard band + cup sizing.
- Can usually be found pretty easily in local department stores if you prefer to try them on in person.
Warner’s Cons:
- Absolutely no front-closure options, so this may not be a great fit for older women with arthritis or mobility issues.
- Cannot be purchased directly through Warner’s website if you shop online; you can opt to buy from Amazon, or you can shop at Kohl’s, Macy’s, or JCPenney.
Closing Thoughts
The best bras for older women aren’t about squeezing or “fixing” anything, nor are they about changing your body to fit some youthful standard. They’re about feeling comfortable, supported, and confident, and the right bra can make a noticeable difference in how you feel while you’re wearing it all day.
If there’s one takeaway from this article, it’s this: Comfort isn’t a luxury, it’s a priority, and you’re worth the self-care.
