Bras: we love em, we hate em, and many of us kinda have to wear them to take some pressure off of our backs.
And if you’re a bra wearer, you’ve likely tried dozens over the course of… having boobs, to varying degrees of success.
I know in the 20-ish years I’ve been wearing bras that there are a million different styles that I absolutely hate and very few I enjoy.
Now, as a disclaimer: I’m generally anti-bra. I’m blessed with a relatively smaller chest that makes bras not always a necessity. So this t-shirt bra wasn’t competing against other bras necessarily, but rather the comfort of no bra at all.
That being said, let’s jump into my personal experience with Third Love’s most popular item: the 24/7 Classic T-Shirt Bra.
Fit and Sizing- Is It Sized Well/Size-Inclusive?
First off, let’s take a look at the sizing. Now, I have gone down the rabbit hole of online sizing guides and size calculators, which has brought me success. So I know what I’m talking about when it comes to sizing.
Third Love actually has a sizing guide on their website under each bra, and it gave me the same size recommendation that the calculator that I consider to be a bra bible of sorts gave me. Off to a promising start.
I ordered my size (32DD or E, as it’s referred to with this brand) and have to say that for me personally, the size was spot-on. I’m able to hook it on the furthest hooks (which, btw, is how it’s supposed to fit– the tighter options are to make sure your bra is still usable as the elastic wears out!)
I was a little nervous to see that the straps are not fully adjustable, as I have… I guess, shallow shoulders, and straps sliding off is a constant struggle for me, but they were able to adjust small enough that this wasn’t a problem for me.
As far as inclusivity, I’ve always known (from Reddit) that they offer a uniquely wide range. Band sizes for the T-Shirt bra go as small as 32 and as large as 44, with cup sizes ranging from A to H with a few half-sizes available. Are there many who need a smaller or larger band size? Yes. Is this pretty decent? Also yes.
Support and Comfort: Does It Keep Them Up and Can I Stand Wearing It?
Now, I’ve told you all my cup size, so I can only speak to how well it supported my breasts, and that was pretty darn well. While it’s by no means a pushup, it doesn’t claim to be, and it hoisted them up high enough without the straps digging in. Would it still offer the same amount of support for my larger-chested friends? I’m not sure, but there are quite a few positive reviews from folks with larger cup and band sizes than my own.
The most important part for me? Comfort. I’m kind of a hater when it comes to bras, and ones with underwire (like this one!) are at the top of my sh*t list under most circumstances. But honestly… It. Didn’t. Suck.
Nothing dug in, I didn’t feel the need to do a good ol’ “scoop and shift” throughout the day, and the fabric is soft as hell, so no nipple irritation. Due to the shape of my breasts and how the fat is distributed, underwire usually digs into that area near my armpit or irritates me at the very least. This one didn’t.
Because of the sizing being accurate, it wasn’t cutting off circulation, either. While I still loved taking this bra off at the end of the day (isn’t that the best feeling?), I didn’t find myself daydreaming about it at the 6-hour mark, which says a lot.
Shape and Appearance: How Does It Make Your Breasts Look Under Clothes?
Now for shape!
When I first saw this bra, I wasn’t sure. The foam “padding” seems pretty thin, and I wasn’t sure if it would hold its shape. And, of course, there’s also the concern of if you’ll have visible lines under your clothes from your bra (because God forbid someone knows you’re wearing a bra! Just kidding. I digress…)
I’m happy to report that neither of these were issues. My breasts looked like breasts. It evened out some gaps but didn’t make them look weirdly insanely spherical in a suspicious way. Overall, I’m pleased with the shaping.
The straps have little loops on them that I was worried about showing up through my shirt, but it wasn’t a huge issue by any means. The lines were somehow invisible, which is actually the dream.
Style/Design/Color Options: Are There Options for Every Skin Tone, and Are There Cute Options?
When searching for a t-shirt bra, I think we all want at least one that more or less matches our skin tone so we can wear it under lighter colored tops without it being an active part of the outfit. And this is where ThirdLove has you covered.
They have classic white and black, as well as 6 skin tones for light to deep complexions. I went with the “soft pink” because I have pale skin with cool undertones, and successfully wore it under a white t-shirt without any trace of bra whatsoever.
As far as other color options, you have some cute cool tones with equally cute names, including “Purple Dove,” “Lilac Blush,” and “Sky Blue.” I’m only slightly surprised that there’s no true red, which I’ve been told is the universal go-to for folks looking for a bra to wear under a white shirt, regardless of skin color (has anyone else heard of this? Or put it to the test?)
They also have a few lace offerings in taupe, charcoal, and evening violet. I didn’t get one of these lace options, but I imagine it wouldn’t be quite as inconspicuous under a thin t-shirt material.
Overall, a cute selection with inclusive hues, but you’re not gonna find a crazy leopard print bra in this particular style.
Value: Is It Worth It for the Money?
A new bra? IN THIS ECONOMY?! I know, I know. But hear me out here… if you’re looking at these higher-end (because ThirdLove is already known as a quality bra-maker, which I would agree with at this point) bras, the $72 you’re coughing up for this one is, in my opinion, money well spent.
As I said earlier, the thinner padding did elicit a little side-eye from me, but the level of comfort and wearability proved me wrong.
I can say with my whole chest (aha!) that this bra is a good value. It feels like the quality isn’t going to let me down over time, and I would pay far more for something that gave me this much comfort in my day-to-day (that’s not an invitation to raise the price though!)
Let me also state that while I personally believe it’s worth $72, that’s simply not an accessible price point for many. And that’s okay. They do have some wireless styles that are in the high 50s to low 60s range, but this is going to be considered quite a splurge for many. But if you have $72 burning a hole in your pocket, I can’t think of a better bra to spend it on. They also seem to run frequent sales.
And I’m going to save my “things that are marketed specifically to women are always subject to the pink tax” rant for another day.
Final Verdict: Will I Wear It Again?
So, would I do it again? You’re damn skippy I would. Probably wearing it again tonight, as a matter of fact. This is the first (yes, the very first) underwire bra that hasn’t made me consider bringing bra burning back. That push-up bra from that very popular lingerie brand that my friends pooled together money to buy me for my 15th birthday is officially retired
